Default AUX in on OPtima factory stereo?

Does anyone have an idea on how to rig one of these up on a 2001 OPtima? I have the factory CD/cassette deck. Is there a standard plug or connector I can extend and plug my MP3 player into? (not an iPAID).

There are no input connections on the front or rear of your Optima M290 unit and no "aux" position to switch to. Many places sell the cassette with the 1/8" plug wired to it so that you insert the cassette into the drive and plug your MP3 device using the wired plug. I have asked around my area audio accessories stores and only other thing they have come up with is a FM transmitter. It plugs into your MP3 and then transmit the sound to a station on your FM band in the car.

THanks, that is what I've found so far. No adapters or kits. I was more curious if one could hack the input in, however.
I was reading on various sites where people have gone behind the deck and basically tapped into some "standard" 12-pin data plug or have just rerouted the cassette or CD lines built into the unit. NO idea what a KIA deck looks like but it sounds at least possible, but not feasible if you have to open up the housing or something.

I think the problem will be with having no way to switch back and forth between modes for the MP3. Those wires coming out of the back go to the amp in the trunk, if your car is so equipped as mine is, and to the speakers. The smaller connections on the back side of the unit is for the CD changer unit and I have heard of people wiring into that for MP3 but not on the Optima.

A car audio guy I spoke with kinda discouraged me from doing what you are thinking of doing. I would definitely think twice unless someone here on the forum has actually done it with theirs and have good instructions. Good luck with your search just the same.
