Default built in amplifier?

i have a 2002 Kia Optima LX and I went to get a new head unit installed and after the guy was done my subwoofers didnt work. He said it was because I had a built in amp (from Kia) and the new amp built into my new head unit were too powerful for my amp for my subwoofers. He finally did something to make my subwoofers work but they aren't as powerful as before. I was told there might be a way to disable the Kia amp that is built in, but no one knew how. Does anyone know what to do or how to disable kia's amp?

First I must say that I'm no expert on sound systems.

How is your new amp powered? Doesn't it run it's own pair of patch cables back to the head? I'm wondering how the Kia amp would interfere at all, do you know where it is located?

I was told the kia amp is right behind the wire harness. I have no idea how it affects my subs because the subs arn't connected to the kia amp, they use a special hook up directly from the sony head unit. I'm as lost as ever w/ this.

Can the Kia amp be disconnected totally from the system? Maybe that could be the problem, your Sony head unit is still sending sounds through that amp with no place to go from there. Just a thought.

I was told the upgraded head unit's amp is in the trunk mounted in a plastic case.

That is an interesting comment because I was just checking some things out in my Optima (just got a couple weeks ago) and wondered what that 'thing' was hanging from the rear deck. I'll have to investigate that a little further.

I guess it really depends a lot on the wiring harness adaptor plug for Mr. Optima's Sony head unit. Did the mfr. leave the wires in that run to that built in amp?

The factory amp is in the trunk on the passenger side behind the trim. You will need to completely disable it, IE remove it, for your amp to work correctly. your best bet is to replace the head unit with an aftermarket one, and rewire everything.

How do I get to the remote Amp.
I can see the black box hanging down in the trunk but not how to "open" it.
I have a new head unit and hope to jump out the amp.
any help would be appreciated, it is my wife's car and she has no sound.
