How do I find out if my car has factory built-in keyless entry?
I bought a 2002 Kia Magentis 2.5SE, from a Honda dealer. I thought that it had keyless-entry, but the dealer said that the previous owner of the car didn't give them any remote transmitter, only 2 keys. My question is: how can I find out if there should be keyless entry? Can I do that by myself or do I have to go to a Kia dealer?

The 2002 SE came standard with keyless entry. I own a 2002 LXV-6 and it does not so I had it added. You can find fobs for your keyless entry on ebay.com or through your dealer. If you have a good relationship with the service manager, he/she should program the new fobs for free. Warranty won't cover lost or missing fobs or the programming.
I have a 2001 Optima LX. I just bought it and it has auto locks. Most cars that I know of that have auto Locks also have the keyless entry. Where would I start to look to find out if I have it?

Auto powered locks are standard on 2001 - 2006 LX and SE models. ONLY the SE comes with keyless door entry with remote fob controls. This is a fact. If a LX has remote keyless entry then it is aftermarket and not original equipment. My Optima LX has aftermarket keyless entry that I had added. It is not an option from the factory in the U.S. market on the LX trim.
Your dealer should be able to do it for you if they do accessories themselves. Mine uses a local body shop that also installs aftermarket accessories such as alarms, keyless entry, body kits, etc. If your dealer cannot help you, look in the phone book or on the Internet for automotive accessories aftermarket installers. There are a lot of brands and options to select from.
I brought my Optima to Circut City and they installed keyless for $119 total. They gave me the options to add some relays that would honk the horn and pop the trunk, but the relays costed an additional $30 or so I can't remember if that included instillation on those or not. But I love the system, it is a Valet 712t and it has options for some really cool features. The remots have four buttons one for lock, one for unlock, a yellow button that can be used for remote start(but if you hold acts as the panic button) and an auxuliry button that you can hook anything up to thru a relay (mine is going to be trunk), and the last is if you press the lock and unlock at the same time is a second auxuliry button that can be used to control an another somthing, like alarm, windows, or dome light.
Any way I am a bit exicted about it. Thank you for you help.
The one bad thing that I have to say about the instillation is that they didn't mount the status LED or the programming button. The just left the hang under the dash in a place that you would never see them unless you sat upside down in the drivers seat with you head looking up.
Great price you got for the remote keyless entry. I lucked out having it done with the same features as yours plus alarm system for $155 and like you makes a world of difference having the keyless entry. In the new 2007 Optima all model trims are getting keyless entry standard and that is about time. Btw, my installer drilled a small hole for the LED on the upper left door post in eye position but put the switch low next to the foot rest. That switch location is terrible and will at some point have it moved higher up.
I was reading the user manual for the keyless entry. They said that the switch should be in a place that is hard to see because that is how you can override the Starter Lockout if you forgot your fob. (I didn't get that fancy feature installed).

If this statement is true I was lied to by my salesman yesterday when I was getting my new 2007 washed and detailed because I asked him if my car came with the keyless entry and he said no. The LX model did not offer that option. I sure wish it did though. I liked being able to unlock my door before I got to it so I could look into it when the dome light came on to see if anyone was in it before I got in. In my opinion that is an AWESOME safety feature! My husband said they should set the vehicles up like the cops do in their "theft stings" so if someone IS in the vehicle we could have a button to "lock the person IN" till the cops got there!
