I have a 2002 Kia Optima that stopped running while I was driving down the highway. I thought that it was the fuel pump. Nope, I checked it after I bought a new on and the old one works. What else could it be? The car cranks but doesn't start. Any ideas would be great, because I'm totally stumped.
I also would like to add that he engine will run when I spray starting fluid in it , also would like to add I know the fuel pump is not turning on when I turn on the ignition and have checked the fuel pump fuse and it is good, but I can not find the fuel pump relay. Looked in fuse box under hood and in car it is not there! if someone could help it would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Jena

Two more factors are involved in your case. You have ruled out the fuel pump, now the question to you is, did you just fill up your tank before it happened, if you did then you picked up more water than fuel, draw some fuel out to see if there is any water in it, second factor is the coil or the coil wire. Check both factors and let us know your findings. Have a great day and focus on the solution instead of the problem.

A word of caution to all who read this post. Don't fill up your tank if you see a fuel tanker on the premises dumping it's load. It stirs up the settlement and the condensation in the underground tank....

Just throwin out ideas.....plugged filter....dirty injectors....maybe a error code was stored if the check engin light came on. But you probably wouldnt know that if the engine just stopped. This can be read by a scanner tool at a parts shop..if you can get it there.

thanks for your insight. My boyfriend pulled me to the kia dealership. I guess I'll pay to see what they think. It's probably gonna cost a fortune. But I love my car.

Thanks Again,

Jena

My car just quit running also. I'm hoping that you'll come back here and post what they find. Thanks.

I'll let you know what the dealer says. They can't look at it til Monday. But I hope it's something that's easy to fix and not expensive.............

I pulled the timing belt cover and the belt is still on, although it is missing a few teeth. I just went over 58,600 miles so the belt should probably be changed before 60,000. It’s just my opinion, but I don’t think it’s the best quality. I’m getting a P0335 code, Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit malfunction. I’m trying to locate it now.

Missing teeth on a timing belt is as good as a broken timing belt. The cranshaft and camshafts are syncronized so missing teeth makes it out of sync.

My big concern now is any possible engine damage.
