Hi all
We have a 2002 kia optima v6 automatic. here recently the car started actin wierd.. it seemed as if the transmission was slipping when you accelerate.. well as time went on.. it got worse.. and it was doing it everytime we drive it..when we go up a hill and have to accelerate it starts to do it.. but then i heard it in the engine.. it sounds almost like it was backfire inside the intake stuff.. the check engine light had been on for months.. and when i had it tested.. it said it was the 02 sensor bank 1... well i didnt have the money to fix it at the time.. but as the car started acting funny like it was.. i got a new one for it.. still the same problem.. so i went ahead and changed the spark plugs.. with auto lite platinums.. still the same problem and now even more problems.. now when you give it gas.. it it acts like your giving it gas and pressing the brake at the same time.. and it goes put put put real fast.. like it has a miss.. any ideas wut it could be?.. i read some other posts.. but they really dont seem the same as mine.. now i did notice that after i changed the spark plugs.. its a mix of the 2 problems now.. not only do i still have the hesitation when accelerating.. i also have the putting... any ideas?
thanks in advance for anyones help
jeff

Well sorry to hear about your problem.. but with you NOT having your O2 sensor checked and/or replaced will create even worse problems than you currently have. Remember that the O2 Sensor checks the Air:Fuel ratio. Here is the info that you'll need to know to understand how IMPORTANT the O2 Sensor really is: O2 Sensor Info

Look, weither you want to or not, you NEED to take the car in to get checked.

Some of your problem may be spark plug type related according to a Kia tech I know personally. Many techs do not recommend anything but OEM plugs for good reason to avoid problems like yours. May or may not be the plugs but you may want to check into it.

There is a thread on the problem that you are experiencing on this forum. In that thread the spark plug issue came up and the poster was advised to replace the aftermarket plugs with oem plugs and the problem would disappear. It was done and the problem went away. Go to your KIA Dealer and purchase the right plugs for your beauty....

You can get the OEM (NGK) Plugs from any autoparts store for FAR less than at the dealership.
