Hi,
I have Optima 2001, 27,000 miles V4. I got the check light, I took it to the autozone, the code is P0401, EGR inflow problem. I have the following questions:
1) Could anybody describe to me in detail (I'm newbie) where to find the EGR valve.

2) Should I replace it? (Autozone quoted me $105)

3) Car idles badly, shifts hard. I plan to change the spark plugs prior to addressing the EGR valve, I've suspecting the shocks in the car, the hesitation on accelerating may be from the spark plugs then I got the valve check light. I will still change the plugs, but should I still change the EGR valve? Is it something I can do myself, should I attempt cleaning it myself?

Thanks!

I wouldn't just start replacing things because you could be wasting your money. A bad EGR valve is just one of the things that could cause the code. A faulty control solenoid or broken vacuum line are other possibilities. The valve, if that is the problem, is only about $60 from the dealer, so you might want to pass on Autozone this time and save some money.

EGR problems can cause a rough idle, so maybe that is your only problem.

The valve is located at the back of the intake manifold on the passengers side. Carbon can build up on it and cause it to stick, so with the vehicle off and cool, you can reach your fingers in and push on the diaphram to possibly "unstick" it. If it is sticking, then you're better off replacing it though cleaning it could be a temporary fix.

thanks for the reply...
Hmm,...i'm still unable to locate the egr, any further directions? On some kia diagram it suggests that it should be on the driver's side, are you sure it's on the passenger's side?
Sorry, I'm a newbie to this...!

It could be I guess. It's behind the intake manifold somewhere.
