My radio sound stopped suddenly for no apparent reason, I checked the audio fuse under dash and it was ok. I pulled the radio out and took it apart to try to find an internal 5 amp fuse (label on radio indicates 5 amp fuse) but did not find one. I bought another exact radio on ebay ($10.50) and it still does not have any sound. I checked the rear speakers and they seemed ok. Is there another fuse somewhere that I am missing? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Does your Optima have an amp? I think just the EX's have the amps, but I've seen a couple of these go bad with the exact same symptoms. I believe the amp also has a separate fuse under the hood, so be sure to check that too if you believe you have an amp.

When you checked the rear speakers.. were the connections TOTALLY in tacked? Because I went through the same thing when my driver side rear speakers connector was split from a big package I had slipped in the trunk and hit the speaker.. but yeah.. that's just me.. just thowing that out there! Hope that helps!

I have an SEV6 model. I have no idea if there is an AMP (as amplifier ?). Where under the hood would it be located and what does it look like?

The connections on the speakers looked fine, I unplugged them and plugged them back in, the wiring appeared to be connected with no visable breaks.

Good news! The sound in the radio is working. I checked the fuses under the hood and found a one that said "AMP", I checked it (20 amp) and it was blown. I plugged the radio back in and it is working fine. Thank you for your help. Just a side note; when I brought my car to the KIA dealer they said the warrenty was past 3 years and the radio was not covered, however they could replace it for about $1,400. I told them to "you know what" themselves. Thanks again!

OEM companies are REAL proud of their radios and amps. The Optima amp isn't much less than that at the dealer cost, so they were trying to cut you a deal (if the amp was bad, but if they knew it was a fuse then they would have screwed you out of $1400) The radios are over a grand also, as are GM radios, Mitsubishi radios, etc...

Anyway, glad you found your problem.
