Please, if anyone has hints for filter removal and replacement that resolves the spilling all over a framemember and the necessity of passing the filter from hand to hand to "snake" out from underneath. Any hints???

Thanks,
Ron

I have just changed oil on mine (also a 2004 I4 Optima) and it wasn't too bad. I cut a small plastic container (something like an 1/2 pint milk bottle) in half (vertically) and place one of the halves under the oil filter. The trick is to find just the right size that would fit nicely between the oil filter and the axial. In addition, I placed some paper towels inside the plastic container to soak up the oil that was spilled from the filter when I loosened it. I unscrewed the oil filter out and let the oil drained into that container before I finally removed the filter. Again, the paper in the container will help soaking up the boil and minimize the oil spill.

Hope this helps.
