got my rio back in 05 and was just out, now evey since i have had it it has been back and forth to the dealer. 1st it was buring oil but there was no signs of it on the car or in the motor, it was drinking the oil for about a year and a half, it come good for a little while then the problem came back.
Now the other week when i was on the freeway it all of a sudden jurked and it was like it shut off and then was back on in the space of about .5 of a sec. My BF was with me at the time and is a mechanic and he had no idea way it was so i took it to kia they had it for a day and found nothing.
2 weeks later it did it again so back she went to kia, they took it for 4days had it running on everything they had, called kia australia and compared all the data from mine to all the rio's in AUS and nothing, so she got a flight recorder put in so if something happened then they might be able to find it.
So thank god it played up yesterday so she is going back tomorrow, im HOPPING that kia will find something.
Does anyone else have any ideas for as to what they thing might be happening, i just have a bad feeling that Kia wont find anything even with the recorder in it and i have a bad feeling that my warrenty is going to run out and car will still be the same..

This may or may not be part of the same problem but it seems to be two separate indications. I didn't catch where the dealership said the oil was going. Unless you were going excessively over your recommended oil changes, the oil was either going somewhere or was never put in the engine. I know that quick-lube places are notorious for failing to replace fluids after draining them. It's difficult to concentrate when your high . Was there a leak? Was the car smoking? Engines don't just "eat" oil.
I know they dont just drink oil but that basicly what they told me, there was no sings of it burning and they were watching it every week for me, id just go in and they would check it. The oil has only ever been canged when it needs to be,Well atm the car is back at Westpoint and they now should just have to plug and play the recorder, i spoke to the guy who is working on it and its got them all stuffed there.
I didn’t mean to sound condescending about your car "drinking" oil. I thought there might be something that I was missing. Keep us posted on what they find out with the recorder.
Well they didnt show anything with the recorder and now we are at a dead end. I have spoken to my BF a number of times about it and now he seems to think that it might be a loom problem which wouldnt show on the recorder and if it is just have to change it and hope it works. So now I just have to record when and where i drive and i shouldnt have to do it. Im at my wits end now and so is Kia as to what is going on with my car.
Someone who has had a very similar problem to me was talking to my auntie and said that he got his rio fixed and was told that it was the "fuel pressure sensor switch" and now it car doesnt cut out at all.
What do people think????
Im calling kia tomorrow to ask them.
They said they have checked everything i mean what else would you do with the car for a week, i didnt get a chance to call them 2day due to work but will 2morrow, my BF also suggested the fuel pump a while ago but he wasnt to sure about how the kia is build, though people in here would be my best bet!

well the fuel pressure could cause a problem like this but if it's the fuel pump or the regulator you're gonna have to buy a new fuel pump regardless. the regulator is built onto the fuel pump and it's all one piece. i would have someone check the fuel pressure at the rail. if it's not at least 40 psi you have a fuel pressure problem. the down side is that this will be hard to do since your problem only seems happen part of the time. but that's where i would start.
i just noticed you were in australia and i think you use metric measurements down there. i'm not sure what 40 pounds per square inch translates into as far as metric.
