Default Timing: Advance the intake? New cams?

I know there are some tuners out there.

I have a two part question on the 1.5L in my 02' Rio. Is there enough clearance between the piston and valve to advance the intake without catastrophic damage? I wanted to see if by opening the intake sooner and closing it sooner, I could get more air on the intake stroke and eliminate the effect of the exhaust stroke on the intake flow. I know it isn't the healthiest thing for my engine. I just wanted to know if anyone had tried to mess with the timing to improve high or low end torque. If I can't do that, has anyone even heard of performance cams for the Rio?

I am open to other suggestions to improve the output. I already know that I can increase the airflow to and from the engine with headers and such. I don't want to get into that with this posting except to ask if Sephia aftermarket is a fit on the Rio.

I'm looking for things that have worked for others, in real-world application. Thank you in advance for your input.

Default 2002? or just 03' to 05'

Lorolia,

It stated "2003-2005" on the site. Will the cams go on a 2002? Have you known anyone who has done it?

Those are a rip off and the specs suck.. Talk to Sportage4x4 he can get you cams like the ones in my Rio which have been tested and designed for the Rio.. KFX cams are just a generic spec they used for all Kias, not what may have worked ideal in a Rio.. Plus cams from Sportage4x4 would be cheaper.

As for advancing the intake I wouldn't bother. We used to retard the exhaust cam but performance from it all ways became a pissing war as to whether or not it made power and in the end the guys who complained about it not making power usually retarded the cam incorrectly and either advanced the exhaust cam or threw their timing completely out of whack.

That's the info I was looking for. Thanks for the heads-up, Tuner. I know there are a lot of theories on cam design. I hate to pay money for hype. That's why I like to hear what has really worked on the street. Thanks for the info. I'll get in touch with Sportage4x4 about those cams. Does he have a website or is this a garage thing?
