Default Heat Shield

On my 2003 Rio I heard a sound like loose sheet metal. The dealer said the heat shield was loose and needed adjusted. But at the same time I heard a sound like a humming noise, sounds like from the back of the car. The loose metal sound is gone, but the loud humming is still there. Its not the tires. This all started in about 3 days. Where is the heat shield located. If it was loose could it make a noise like that? Thanks.

Sounds like a rear wheel bearing, supposedly a very common fault with RIO's. Solution is to relpace wheel bearings inner and outer and the grease seal, parts readily available at Auto Zone, Advance, or other auto parts stores. Cheack arount for installion prices,I had one replaced on my RIO for approx $60 parts encluded. Dealer price waaaaay higher, was quoted $300 for this simple job.
