Default Anyone know that this sound is

This is throwin me in a loop and I cannot figure this out. I just started getting a noise the other day. It sounds like a rattle noise near the bottom part of the motor near the firewall. The noise is not coming from the front or sides. It somewhat sounds like a rattle noise. Someone said catalytic converter, someone else said maybe bottom end bearings. I hope thats not it. I am not losing any power. Engine shakes a little. Temp is normal. No CEL lights. No other lights. Just had a oil change but it was doing it before. I did have a sound where it sounded like rattle in that area but it was only under load and low rpm. That noise is gone and its know making this new noise, I guess its related. I well try to get a video uploaded tonight or tomorrow.

Wow... Its kind of hard to tell on utube. Does the noise change when in gear? How bout starter not releasing. I have a scope that I bought from Harbor Freights that I use for hard to find noises. It might help

I agree, it's not easy to identify the source when listening to that clip.

It did however sound like it was keeping pace with the engine RPM which may point to bearings.

The thermal shield on the CAT is known to rattle.

I do not hear it after 2000rpms. and it only does it when it warms up after 5 minutes of driving. The question is if it is bearings won't the sound come from the front of the motor to??

There is a joint on the front section of pipe that connects the two catalytic converters. Check that joint while running.

all the joints are tight and no cracks. I am just woundering if maybe there is a hole or crack in the cat and the sound what I am hearing is it hitting the shield

I think I found the problem I thinks its the water pump failing. Its not leaking or overheating but I think its the bearings in the water pump thats making noise. What do you guys think of aftermarket water pumps?? Is the water pump run by the timing belt or the altenator belt?? and can you remove it and install it without removing the timing belt??

The water pump is run by a v-belt but you have to remove the timing belt to replace the pump. As far as after market water pumps if they are built with good bearings they should be ok, the bearings are the only critical part in the pump. Most parts stores offer lifetime warrenties on water pumps.

Thank you. I was afraid of that. I just replaced timing belt in water pump 20,000kms ago. The problem is I bought the water pump from the dealer and got another shop to install because I didn't want to use the Kia timing belt since I heard the horror stories
