Default How much did your engine cost?

Hi all, new to this forum. I am curious as to what you all pay for your replacement (used) engines. The salvage yards here place a high premium on engines. I have replaced many rio engines 1.5 &1.6, until recentely I have not gotten a "killer deal" on an engine (a local u-pull yard had a wrecked rio, I grabbed the engine on 1/2 off day for $140) but most of my engines ran me around $600, and none of the shops I know of can source one for less.

I read people all over the net saying they get engines for $200-300 all day, Honestly, I don't understand, even when I find an owner parting one out they always seem to know the engine is in high demand and want top dollar, and the people never want to deal, so I have yet to buy an engine from a private party, but I always try

Also most of the rio's I have had in needed radiator fan blades, there are a few ways to replace the blade, just takes time and patience. The replacement through the collision parts stores runs $80 (complete assembly)

I change the timing belt, I use Gates, but I have a commercial account with a jobber's supply (gates is their line) so the belt runs me around $45 I have seen the goodyear belt for this application and it seems to be good quality as well.

So what gives, have the engines become more expensive as the fleet of rio's approach 80K miles? Where is the motherload of cheap engines? The dismantlers bid up the wrecked runners knowing the value of the engine. So what did your engine cost?

Also I have noticed that 01-02 1.5L command a premium over the later 03-05 1.6L.

When I blew the engine in my 02 Rio Cinco, the cheapest 1.5L engine I could find had something around 60K miles on it and they wanted something in the neighborhood of $600.

The 1.6L I threw in there I pulled from a 05 Rio with 23K on the clock. it cost me $350

Lately I have been noticing that the price on basic rio's has been dropping the AC & PS delete cars (MT), almost to the point where it is worth picking up the car for the motor, and parting the rest.

A guy I know, has a small shop bought an engine as a rio replacement, check this out--- guy sold it as good, engine could be rotated full 360, engine was bad...,apparentely the douche pulled the head and scooped out the valve remains, buttoned the engine back up.

I guess I was unclear, a guy I know (Vince) bought an engine online, the guy who sold the engine to the repair shop (Vince's shop) pulled the fast one. It also turned out that the guy who sold the engine used a vacant house, we have little to go on as to who actually pulled this scam, I've seen similar sh-t years ago, perhaps it is the economy getting worse, or perhaps it is just people getting worse.
