Default How to add transmission fluid (not flush)

My kia (2001 rio) has a transmission leak. I live in a small town in Montana and was informed I would have to drive to Missoula (150 miles away) or Spokane (400 miles away) . I obviously cannot tow the car there. The tranny is NOT making any odd noises or grinding, there is no shuttering or lagging. Just a red fluid leaking from under the car. I want to be sure that I don't run the transmission dry. How can I add fluid? and what type of fluid do I add?

You add Tranny fluid at the tube where the dip stick is for the tranny NOT THE DIP STICK FOR THE ENGINE OIL. Only SPIII transmission fluid is recommend, but if you can't find it in the sticks where you live I would use Castrol Import Multi-vehicle ATF fluid. Its fairly cheap and will get you to the repair shop, personnally I'd stay away from the dealer and use a private shop with licensed mech. My deallings with the dealer has been that they are way overpriced, but thats just me "cheap I guess". BTY you'll need a funnel to pour the tranny fluid in. Good luck

I might add SPIII fluid is only available at KIA, Hyndia or how ever you spell it, and Mitsu dealers.
