Default couple of issues before going to mechanic

hello all there,i am new and live in the toronto canada area.
so i am worried about going to my mechanic and him ripping everything apart again only to screw things up more and over charge me.i bought the car at 77 000 kms a bit more then a year ago, then in january i made the apointment to have the timing belt done and just before i got there at 100 000 kms the timing belt blew and make a horrible and expensive mess for me to fix.so i got it all fixed and machined to work like new i hoped, but no,he got something on my O2 sensor and now i have to replace tht at my cost even though it was fine before bringing it to him.and now this might be issolated and its very strange, the car starts fine.when i start the car and drive it a short distance, like to timmys around the corner or whatever it runs fine.then i shut the car of and when i turn it back on it either idles rough and i have to rev it up to make it idle well again before it stalls or once i start going i try and accellerate(not super fast either)and i have a lack of power and it seems like the car wants to stall out,but i push the clutch in and rev the engine a couple times and then it runs great.so my mechanic has no idea what it is and after what happened with the timing belt costing me way to much i want to make sure i have an idea before i go in there.second issue is that recently the headlight switch does not work,i turn the car on at night and the driving lights come on,but i turn the switch and the instrument lights and rear lights do not work, brake lights do work tho.but after a couple mins of driving the lights come on and everything is normal,.if anyone has advice other then pushing the car off a cliff i would appreaciate it greatly as i cannot afford to get a new one yet.thank you all for your time and patience in reading this.

Kevin

as for the lights. it may be a corroded terminal under the hood in the fuse box. they are horribly sealed. i opened mine up the other day and found dozens of green-corroded wires :-S
such a joke.

the IAC is on the back side of the throtle body it has a wire with a plug, plugged into it. Its held on by 2 bolts. Remove it and clean it with a throtle body cleaner.

i pulled the DRL module and am pretty sure thats what is gone,it has a brownish burned liquid or something on it around the white box on the board inside so i figure its gone.and i am going to clena the throttle body very soon and hope that is what is wrong with the car.thank you all very very much.
