Unhappy Why does my Kia vibrate and stall?

I just bought a used 2003 Kia Rio RS and sometimes the ride is rough. Twice in the last two days, it's stalled while stopped at a red light.

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem?

Is the check engine light lit? If so have the codes read AZ, Advance, or other parts stores can do this usuallu free. How about fuel filter? Have you had your timing belt changes? Do this every 60,000 mi. Check for prices, dealers rip you off. Good luck hope this helps.

All the lights lit up.

The check engine light.
The battery light.
The oil light.
And whatever other light was on the left side of the odometer.

I just put the car in park and restarted it.
It worked without any problem.

I just bought the car 2 weeks ago.
I'm a girl... I have no idea what you're talking about when you say... "have the codes read AZ, Advance" LOL!

how many km's on the car? when was the last time a tune up was done? i'm assuming (since its an RS) thats its a 5sp, so that rules out transmission problems. does it idle rough all the time? or just intermittently?

It may be a problem with the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve that is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to regulate the idle speed regardless of load changes such as AC and changing from Park to Drive.
Most often cleaning of the ISC with carb cleaner will sort it out.

Error codes are stored in the ECM and can be read for free at parts stores such as Auto Zone, and these codes can point you in the direction of the problem.

If you bought it just two weeks ago, then have the seller (if it's a dealer) pay for the repair.

It just reached 100 000 Kms. I don't know when the last tune up was done. It's an automatic, but i'm hoping it's not the transmission. >.< It doesn't ride rough all the time, it's intermittent. It seems to ride fine when i'm cruising at high speeds on the highway, but it doesn't seem to like the stop and go of city driving. Lol.

I don't know why you bolded the word park in my post. (I only put it in park after it stalled so I can restart the car.)

I'm planning on taking it back to the dealer, but I wanted some insight as to what the problem might be before I took it back.

I bolded the "park" as this was confirmation to me that it was an auto [it was questioned], and the ISC plays an important role when changing from Park-Drive-Park etc.

Thanks for your clarification.

I haven't really been able to pinpoint any specific reason why it stalls. (It seems to be random stalling.)

The first time it stalled, I was stopped at a red light. The second time it stalled, I was coming up the ramp from my underground parking.

Anyways... I called the Dealer today. (even though it's a holiday here) He said to call him tomorrow and he'll schedule me an appointment with his Mechanic. (No cost to Me)

I Just don't want to go to a Mechanic not knowing what the cause might be. (I'd like to make sure the problem is fixed permanently, not temporarily.)

By reading the posts in this thread...
It looks like it could be a number of things. >.<
