Default What can I do? - High Fuel Consumption

Hello,
Can you please help me, I have a Kia Rio 2002 ( RS), the issue is that, it is spending lots of gas, I really don't knwo where to go with this, a mechanic told me I should change the Oxygen sensor, done about 2 months a go but no change, spark plugs were also changed, as well the cables, I have also change the Air Filter.
Any ideas? has any one dealt with this problem before?
Please help me, I'm only getting half the number of KM per tank!!

unplug the MAF and see if it gets better mileage. you will get a check engine light. thats normal.

also, make sure the timing belt is in good condition, and the cams are still aligned properly.

Ok, just a question, ( I'm not amechanic) the MAF, is that the one under the air filter box? and if that makes a diffenrece do I need to replace it, or is this something that can be cleaned?.
Also a friend of mine put the computer to it a system called Gensys?, do you kneo what I should or we should be looking for there? we assumed was the oxygen sensor so we changed it but no change on performance.

Here is a picture of the MAF Sensor:

Look on the large hose going from the air filter housing to the intake manifold.

You stated that a friend hooked up a Genises scanner to the computer,
What were the code numbers if any. Post them so we can point you in the correct direction to diagnose.

When was the engine last tuned-up, fuel filter replaced.
Have you noticed a power difference since gas mileage has declined?

Any information you can tell us regarding the engine performance will help.

Ok, when we hooked up the genesys, there were NO ERROR codes at all, Gas filter has not being change. I'm not an expert but would that make this kind of difference?
Also I preaty sure the power is ok, not much difference plus the fact I'm getting frustrated chances are it has lost some power but I can't really tell, I do not need to press the gas to the floor to go either.

How many miles on car?
Which Oxygen Sensor did you replace? Before catalyst converter or after converter?
Check spark plug wires

Also do like sportage4X4 says in his post. disconnect MAf and drive for a while and check the timing belt.

Here is a link to a online service manual:
