Default Heat gauge!

I just bought a used 01 Rio,,she is running at 3/4 and alittle above on the heat gauge. Is this normal for these cars?
Thanks Dobb

no.

it should go no higher than half.

check/change the thermostat and make sure it is full of coolant. there is nothing special about the cooling system. it is very basic. just fill it up and drive.

Thanks,,she is full of coolant, sometimes it runs at half, next time it will run at 3/4. Does sound like the thermostat is sticking. Is this a job a backyard mechanic can do?

the rad fan should come on before the needle crosses the half way mark on the gauge. if it does, then i would replace the thermostat. it is very easy to change. if the fan is not operating, or operating intermittently, have a look at or under the relay box on the left fender. the rad fan relay is in there, and sometimes the connections become corroded.
