Guys,

I am in the process of looking into buying a 2005 Kia Rio for a commuter car. I have had a lot of experience with the Festiva and Aspire, so I am thinking that this would be a natural purchase for me.

Here is the car I am looking at:
http://www.dickscottonline.com/All-Used-In...toryId=10102974

Its a base car, but it does have air and seems pretty nice to drive in. It only has 24K on it and being a 2005 it still pretty new.

What do you guys think? Do you guys know if the 10yr/100K warranty is still in effect on used cars?

Thanks!

Kia does not transfer the 10 year/100,000 mile part of their warranty beyond the original purchaser. However, the balance of the basic 5 year/60,000 mile part is transferrable to a new owner. Details of the warranty is found at www.kia.com.

I am not a big fan of the Rio prior to the new 2006 model. It was a problematic car over the years although the 2005 should be alright. JMHO

So should I stay away from this car?

I have a very good relationship with my dealership and spoke with two service people who said the 2005 Rio has been very reliable and trouble free overall. I trust these two people since they have advised me on things in the past. I also checked various Internet sites to see if the 2005 Rio has a history of problems and it does not. Simple adjustments may be needed in some cases when buying any car of course.

I would take the Rio on a nice test drive, check out how it fits your driving habits, comfort needs and maintenance records at the dealership (they are computerized). If it is clean and meets your needs, the price is right, go for it!!

Hail the KING: (Cool!).

Check out used car pricing on kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book), Edmonds and any other place you can Google up. I have found that Used Car dealers are pretty hep at using those resources and even try to price just below them to look good. Just make sure your deal isn't way out of line, OTOH don't waste a lot of time over a difference of $100.

Go at 'er.........

I thought $7500 was a fair price for a car like that. I am going to take it for a spin tonight and then make my decision.

Some people don't like "The King". More then one person has said "That avitar is scarry"

I was going to pick this car up until I called my insurance lady. She quoted me $708 to insure this car for 6 months. I was FLOORED to say the least. Even in a "no-fault" state like Michigan, that is way too high. Do most people buy these and put basic coverage on them? I don't see how an economy car could be so expensive to insure.

Maybe you need to get some more quotes. I pay $360/6 mo. for my 01 Sephia. I do understand that where you are 'garaged' in the state makes a difference also. I have my insurance with USAA.

HAHA I'm sitting here thinking the same thing and then read your reply. How funny.

Yeah, the price is about right - brand new they're fetching 11K base, so I think that's a fair price given the state. Definitely test it out and see how it does. Insurance is another matter - who do you have? It sounds like a rip off. My 2001 Rio was never even close to that, and I was only 20 when I bought it - so do the math... young male driver, new car... yeah anyway...

My mom has a 2005 Rio, and loves it. Absolutely no real problems (the gas guage thing in this forum is the only thing, but that's a minor problem). My 2001 gave me zero issues until the day I traded it in for my Sorento. I hated to have lost it in the trade. I really liked it. If I ever went back to a sedan, it would probably be a Rio. They're comfortable, and despite people who like Hondas, a big guy like myself can get in and out of the Rio easier than Honda or anything else.
