Timing Belt Stretched

I own a 2002 Kia Rio. Apparently the dealer that sold me my car was "lacking" in the information department. We were never told, or given any information that we were to change the timing belt at 60,000. Now at 74,000 the belt has "stretched" and the engine is totally shot. They quote me 4,100 for a new one.

I think this should be covered under the 100,000 warranty. But here's the question. Has Kia covered anyone's repair to their engine if the timing belt broke or stretched after 60,000 miles? I am looking for any documentation that may help me force Kia to cover this under their warranty.

it is in their matinence scheduale in the warrinty book with the car. If the belt breaks and you did not change at or before 60,000 they do not need to warrinty it. there is a 30k 60k 90k 120k service (every 30k) if not done warrinty void!

The Kia service centre have told me that the Timing Belt only need to be change when it reach 90k.

Did you serviced the car at 60k? Do you have papers and stamps to certify that? If so, then you have a case. If you didn't serviced the car at 60k they are not guilty.

as said above there is a service scheduale that needs to be done. if not it is considered neglect of the vehicle and they then are not responsible in any way. sry but I do agree with them if no one took care of their cars they would lose money. whose in buisness to lose $$? no one.
this is the same as most vehicle manufactures do this same thing now. almost all if not all of them.
