How To Change Plugs ? Newbie

I'm new to this forum and until just a few minutes ago had never tried to work on my 2002 Kia Rio. But I decided to change spark plugs and couldn't even find them. I took the black cover off and there are the wires and after much effort and tearing one of the rubber tops I pulled out a "tube" that looks like it attachs to the spark plug on the other end, I can see to top of the spark plug way down inside a hole.
Is this how you change them ?? Through the hole ?? Is there a special tool to remove the rubber caps and long tubes to keep from tearing them like I did ??
Will it hurt that I tore one ??
HELP......I'm and old retired guy just trying to change plugs.....

Yes the plugs are down there!
As long as the actual cable is intact, you shouldn;t have done any damage.

You will need the correct size spark plug socket, just undo and remove the plugs.
To get the plugs out, use either a magnetic plug socket, or one with a rubber insert, or use a telescopic magnet to fish them out, or the easiest way, use the plug lead itself.
