Default 04 Rio done all i can think to do need help

I bought this car with broken timing belt head and block were repairable. Had 4 new valve seats put in head and resurfaced and new valves. Got it running but had a bad ruff low idle you can feel vibrations througjt out whole car. I replaced TP sensor IAT and MAF still there plugs are ngk gaped to 0.30 wires are new. I did have 6 trans codes but it shifted fine changed wiring harnes to trans and codes did not come back . But duff idle was still there so I put in another trans thinking convertor may be causing the vibrations no luck. I have 180 lbs compression on each cylinder I've checked for vac leaked couldn't find any. Is there anything I have missed that could be causing this

Also idle when started cold is 1000 rpms and runs smooth after it runs a few mins drops to 800 and vibrations began put trans into drive idles at 800 and idle is worse put back into park vibrations subside just a little but idle is still at 800 rpms

I have an 04 manual, my car had similar issues and it turned out i was an idiot and bumped my coil pack wire loosd on one side. It was a bad mistake and simple fix. Remove plastic engine cover and check connections, test fire, if not fixed try replacing coil pack. Its what your other end of plug wires go into. Sounds like a misfire symptom to me. Hows your acceleration? 45 fast as you can go? Slow??? Check spark plugs for fuel see if they are firing if they are wet with gas they arent firing properly. Check engine light on? What codes? Is your knock sensor intact? CEL should know whats up

Coil is new wires are new they all are firing just got 2 codes show up p0507 and p1166 Ist and Maf are new think it could be the rear cat idling I can put my hand over exhaust pipe and stop all air from coming out

If you haven't already, recommend signing up at the kiatechinfo website (see my sig.) using Internet Explorer web browser (see reqs. main page), then you can look at the [Service Info] for your vehicle & also search the online system to look at the diagnostic tree(s) for the DTC codes you are getting:

P0507 - Idle control system RPM higher than expected:

• Short to ground between IACV and ECM
• Air leak in intake system
• Improperly adjusted accelerator cable
• Faulty IACV
• Faulty TPS
• Faulty PCV/PSV

HO2S-Controller Adaptation Diagnosis Malfunction

• Fuel system malfunction (fuel tank/pressure regulator/fuel pump/PCSV)
• Poor connection to fuel line hose/sealing/cut
• Sealing between PCSV and fuel tank
• Air leakage in exhaust system
• Ignition system malfunction (ignition coil, spark plug, cable)
• Faulty surge tank and intake port

If any codes relating front/rear HO2S, fuel system, EVAP, and ignition system are present, do all repairs associated with them before proceeding with this troubleshooting procedure.

1st code is related to air leak / illegal air, second code is related to fuel system, common denominator between the (2) would be the Purge Control Solenoid valve -> EVAP system: would recommend Q/A'ing the Purge control solenoid valve & hoses going to the Intake Manifold..

I just posted a new topic about my troubles after an engine swap. Mine didn't throw as many codes as yours but you might look at the fuel injector installation. I was getting air around the injectors because I used the wrong slot for the keepers. There's only a tiny difference but it caused a huge problem for me.

GottaCruse covered a lot...The IAC and TPS are common problems... Clean the IAC with carb/choke cleaner... The TPS usually will flash the check engine light if it has a bad spot.

What's the mileage on the car (body)...The engine we'll go with "zero"...
The Cats "could" cause problems BUT they usually show problems above 2~3k RPMs and not at an idle...unless they are REALLY plugged BAD.

Brad also has a valid idea about the fuel injector seals allowing air to bypass the MAF and throwing off the air/fuel mix.... A realtime scanner (OBDII) looking at short and long term fuel trims may help also...

Stay with us and we'll find the problem(s) as we have a lot of Rio owners out there with great ideas...

Try disconnecting the pipe between your cat's and see if it helps at least you can eliminate the 2nd cat and muffler fo blockage issues. And do clean the iacv good. Good luck Reguard's Ronjohn also don't overlook any electrical connections you may have missed or forgot with the repair maybe it's just that simple good luck

The body has 111k and I have changed the entire fuel rail change MAF and MAP TPS intake gasket and throttle body gasket checked all vac hoses for leaks none there. When engine is first started it runs smooth for sereral mins then I get slight vibrations in park shift into drive and vibrations get bad after engine warms up steering wheel shakes fell it in brake pedal,and seat. Only sensor I have not changed,is the one below TPS could that cause this. Head was shaved and 4 new valve seats put in all new valves compression is 200 psi most other Rios I've worked on had around 180 psi could my compression be to high? I don't want to pull head back off but I covered about everything unless I'm missing something. Correct me if I am wrong I can't make my self think its the head I feel if the head is making good compression on all 4 cylinders then its doing its job right

Alsoi changed muffler and cleaned cat the resanator can't clog can it I did disconnect pipe between cat and vibrations were not as bad reconnected cat and disconnected tail pipe and same not as bad. I could with my hand stop all air from coming out of muffler so,put on another now I cant stop air from coming out it will,blow out the sides forcing its way out so I thought problem solved but warmed up and vibrations still there. I know this has got to be something simple but I just can't find it I even changed computer
