Arrow Is the fuel sending unit replaceable without replacing the entire pump assembly?

Hi, 2002 4-door kia rio here. Fuel gauge has been stuck on E for several years now.

I unbolted my back seat while replacing the speakers, and noticed a metal plate leading to the fuel tank. I took the plate off, and saw the top of the pump assembly which looks kinda like the image here (at least from the top):

I was hesistant to remove and inspect it without knowing all the parts. Does anyone know which part is the level transmitter, and if so, if it is replaceable as a single unit without replacing the entire pump assembly? It would be nice to have a working fuel gauge again.

Thanks a lot.

It mounts to the side of your fuel pump. It will cost you $71.00 from any Kia dealership. At least in the USA.

Absolutely like cobra say's it mounts on the side of thr fuel pump assembly just changed mine 2 weeks ago. And it only cost 42 dollars at my local dealer at hamburg pa. Be for warned the 5 or 6 phillips screws on the cover may be rusty so take your time and use the propper screwdriver to remove them don't round them out. I actually converted to hex bolts when i got done ran to the hardware store and got some stainless bolts and used some antisieze on them. When you remove the fuel pump assembly you have to wiggile and jiggle some to get it out. The sender does not come with the fuel pump assembly as far as i know, it's a pretty easy job just relieve system fuel pressure before pulling off the fuel lines. Run the car and pull the fuel pump relay and let the car die that should do it. Good luck with it and remember for service info Kia Global Information System (KGIS) free to usa residents. Oh and keep alot of rags handy to sop up the gas when you remove the fuel lines or you will have a gas smell in your car for a week. Reguards Ronjohn
