Turning the key is a crap shoot...

OK, three days ago I left work, put the key in the ignition, turned the key and there was a single click that came from the dash near the radio. I tried a few times, and only got the single click. No noise from the engine compartment at all - it came from behind the dash inside the car. Well, I took the gear shift out of park and then put it back in park and voila the car started like normal. It started every time since - until today. Now I just get the click again. Is there some kind of switch in the dash area that I need to check out?

I just put in a new battery 3 months ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mahalo in advance.

i have the same issue, intermittently, I'm HOPING it's the neutral safety switch .

Listen closely, somewhere between that click your describing and the crank part of turning the key right, there is (on my car) another click, at least on my car, coming from under the hood (when the car wont start, I hear this single click), you need to turn off all ac and other noise and close your door to stop the beeping, and you'll hear another click (very faint but there) if you issue is the same as mine. What I've found, last time it happened i just got the ignition to a point where i could turn it left and right just enough at that point to make it engage (click), then disengage so i can go right again so it would engage again (click), and if I do this fast eventually it will start pretty easily, it just needs to be clicked in and out a few times.

Also, I've found the issue will be resolved (car starts) if i simply hold the key all the way to the right (crank), as long as I wait a little while.

Tell me if your issue sounds the same. I didnt find this click until like two days ago, because its sooo faint sounding

So, of course it's been starting great since yesterday.

I did read on another site that there is a set of relays located near the back of the radio, and that is where the clicking is coming from. I'm gonna replace the relay this weekend and see if that solves the problem. I'll let you know how it works out...
