Default Knock Sensor Insanity (Cry for Help!)

I have a 2002 Cinco w/55k miles on it. Runs fine. I took it to get smogged 2 years ago and it failed due to knock sensor (CEL was on). I changed the knock sensor, disconnected/reconnected the battery and it passed. CEL came on shortly afterward (same 325 code). CEL has been on for 2 years. But it was time to get my smog test again so I disco'ed the battery (CEL was gone) and went to the smog shop. It "failed" because the computers they use are smarter now and it knows the car has not done its diagnostic check since the battery was disconnected.

The knock sensor wiring is fine. The knock sensor was replaced (I think the old was fine). How can I get this code to go away so I can pass smog?

What really irritates the sh!) out of me is that the emissions levels (CO, NOX, HC) were all well below allowable, but here in wonderful California thats simply not enough any more.

Any suggestions?

Default

plug in another knock sensor, but dont bother to mount it, may be a good way.

Kinda stupid they should fail it on a knock sensor since that would have next to nothing to do with emissions.
