Default p1166, 2002 rio

Ok, I have been researching this helpful site to fix my daughters car. Engine was replaced ( junkyard-47,000mi I was told) car has 125,000 mi. She has put about 8,000 mi. on it since last year. Idle has been getting rougher and now throwing 1166 code. I see that there could be many reasons. Most of the hoses look good-no sign of cracking. I cleaned mf and iac sensors. I connect or disconnect tps and car runs no differently but local dealer says he doesn't stock them because he never sells them. My daughter is becoming annoying. Please help or take my daughter.

Welcome to the forum.

We'll need to see photo's !

That codes implies that there's a lean condition.
Possible causes:
1) Vacuum leaks.
2) Leaking PCV valve.
3) Leaking EGR.
4) Dirty or bad MAF
5) Intake pipe between MAF and TB leak.
6) Low fuel pressure - fuel filter plugged - dirty injectors

The MAF is very delicate, and should only be cleaned by spraying on something like non-residue electrics cleaner - don't touch it with anything.

For service info register (free) with KiaTechInfo and click on 'Shop' on the left, and for elect schematics click on 'ETM'.

Quality and not quantity counts.

What would you like photos of? I used electronics (crc) cleaner on all sensors. How do I narrow these options down or test each item. These sensors are expensive to replace trial and error. Thanks for your help!

You wouldn't want a troublesome rio and troublesome teenager! Brakes are not functioning either.Sure points to vacume issues. I read thread from mark 458 with exactly same problem but there was not end result to issue discussed. When accelerating there is not enough vacume to operate brakes! Others seem to have related issues. I am still searching. Dealer is useless-trial and error problem solving. I can do that. I replaced plugs, wires, pcv ,cleaned with special cleaners all the sensors. All lines I inspected-look ok. Any more ideas? Thanks

There is a check valve in the pipe between the inlet manifold and the vacuum brake booster, and if it is working it will allow the brake booster to build a reserve vacuum capacity.

Some times the check valve is at fault, but if there's signs of continuous low vacuum, then possible a leak in the vacuum brake booster.

Checked valve it is ok. Temp is rising on hills. Thinking this is starting to look like head gasket and or weak compression on cylinder(s). will do compression test with and without oil in cylinder to see if rings or if valve(s) are shot. What is it like to do head gasket job?
