Most likely you will have bad connections on the terminals to the sender unit in the tank. The gauges themselves are usually fairly reliable. The other thing to check would be the relay for the instrument panel. Sometimes sender units can fail but it is less likely. If the connections are clean and tight and the relay checks out ok then I would look at getting the sender unit checked out.

The connection will be on the top of the tank, I'm not sure on your model but think it would have a cover under the rear seat that you remove to get to the sender unit etc.
