I'm in need of recommendations for a dash mounting solution for my iPhone. I have been back and forth with ProClipUSA but they have been unable to find me anything that works. All of our company trucks have this product and I have been wanting one in my Rio for years.
ProClip 852914 is supposedly for the 2001-2005 Rio, but after ordering it I quickly found out it is for the pre-facelift dash (assuming 01-02) and does not fit my '05.
Their product manager was not aware the Rio dash had been changed, but I hope they revise their item so it doesn't deceive other late-1G owners.
What does everybody else use in their 2003-2005 Rio to hold their phone?
I know my '13 Rio is newer than yours and I don't know Pennsylvania's laws so this solution may not work for you but I bought one of these window mounts to use with my iPhone. NAPA AUTO PARTS
It works pretty good. I don't have Uvo so I use my iPhone as a GPS and this way I can just glance over to see the map.
Thanks for your reply. I guess I hadn't really considered "universal" type windshield mounts because I had a really bad experience with one years ago (was floppy and the clamp part didn't hold onto the GPS tightly enough). Maybe they have improved since then, however.
I honestly don't know what laws are on the books here in PA regarding windshield mounting either, but I always have my Garmin GPS and radar detector suction mounted and have never been pulled over for it. I travel to Ohio every other weekend and don't get hassled there either.
A couple of concerns I would have with that, or any, windshield mount:
1. Location way up on the windshield would be kind of awkward - I don't frequently use my phone as a GPS, only as a media player, so changing songs or Pandora stations could be a hassle.
2. It doesn't have the interface connector for the iPhone. I'd still have to connect both the audio/AUX and charging cables to the phone after wrestling it into the windshield mount. Kind of defeats the purpose of wanting a "docking" solution like the ProClip. May as well leave the phone in the cup holder where it stays now.
