Default Problems!! codes p1505 & p0123

got a check enginge light on in my 97 kia sportage. checked the codes and came up with codes p1505 & p0123.

so i did a few tests, can anybody tell me if there is something wrong with the numbers i came up with.

first the p0123 is tps A circuit high input

i checked the leads to it and it had its 5 volt input and a properly working ground. then from the tps itself i got .372 volts at closed throttle and 3.814 volts at wot. and it changed consistently with no erratic change in voltage.

the next one is the p1505 which is IAC valve opening coil signal low

with the key on engine off the

blue/red wire gave me 1.53 volts and a red and green light on my logic probe

black/white wire gave me 12.31 volts and a red light from my logic probe

red/green wire gave me no volts and no light from the probe

but when i pluged it in and back probed the wires i got
3.73volts and red and green light from my logic probe on the blue/red wire, 12.14 volts and a red light on the logic probe from the black/white wire and 12.14 volts and a red light from the logic probe on the red/green wire.

any ideas and or help would be great.
also would this cause it to over heat slightly?
thank you for any help!!!

P0123 Symptoms
Symptoms may include:

Rough idle
High idle
Surging
other symptoms may also be present

Causes

A code P0123 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

TPS not mounted securely
TPS circuit short to ground or another wire
Faulty TPS
Damaged computer (PCM)

Possible Solutions

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, carefully inspect all wiring and connectors that lead to the TPS. More than likely the problem is with the TPS wiring. Check the voltage at the TPS (refer to a service manual for your vehicle for this specific information). If the voltage spikes or is too high (over 4.65 volts with key on, engine off), then that is indicative of a problem. Carefully trace each wire from the TPS wiring harness to check for breaks, rubbing against other components, etc.

P1505 Idle Air Control Valve Opening Coil Voltage Low.
The Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve some times referred to as Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is on the throttle body.

Check if the connector has come off you ISC, or there's corrosion in the connector, or the wiring insulation has been damaged and the wiring is being grounded. Check for an open coil...

Neither of these displayed codes would cause overheat situation..... Philip

The measurements you see on the TPS seems correct - you can confirm this on the KiaTech web site.

Check the continuity of the IAC/ISC coils, and if they're equal and in the correct range (see KiaTech for value), and you plug it in and turn on the IGN, you should hear and feel it vibrate, and if it does then all its in order, if not the problem lies with the wiring between it and the ECU, or the ECU itself.

For service info register (free) with KiaTechInfo and click on 'Shop' on the left, and for elect schematics click on 'ETM'.

Quality and not quantity counts.

ok so after messing with it a bit and testing parts, I ended up just replacing the tsp and the IAC... reset the codes and then it took forever to start, but it did start once my check engine light came back on. I re-scanned it and i still have my original codes but now a coolant temp sensor popped up so i changed that too. cleared them and the same thing happened. the sportage runs and drives great with the light on. I know its not the parts so is the ecu going crazy? its a 97 and the ecu I pulled out is a K01D ( M 261 204 320 ) could i use another one or would it have to be one with those numbers on it? Thank you

A faulty coolant temp sensor will cause hard starting - the ECM thinks coolant temp. is (-50), vs. actual coolant temp, causes the ECM to over adjust fuel/air/spark vs. actual operating temp.,

I would disconnect both battery cables: after doing so turn on the headlights to drain all power in the electrical system -> to clear out the ECM - leave on & wait 10 minutes, turn the headlights back off, then reconnect the battery cables.

Then check codes again.

re: ECU (or ECM) - it's always best to replace with the same model - family ECM that was installed in the vehicle.. Your internet search would be for [ K01D M261204320 ] without brackets..

I would try to clear all codes by using the [disconnecting the battery method] first though.
