you should post this in the 1st gen. sportage and not just the general one, well I have never heard of anyone getting that high of mileage, I get about 25 mpg on the highway here in Ohio, I have a 5sp. now are you filling up taking down the miles driving until almost empty then filling up then fig. that way, at 35 mpg you should go about 500 miles per tank,

the only way to get true MPG is with full tank fills, never go by notches, 1/4 this and 1/4 that will not work. full tank refills only then drive until almost gone, miles div by gals put in, example you drive 285 miles and your fill up gals ( US gal 128 oz per gal ) maybe it takes 14 gal, you would get 20.36 mpg, lets say you drove 325 miles off the full tank and used 14 gal, 325M/14G=23.21 MPG, 350M/14G=25, now I would never run it that low, but close sometimes, it not good to run that low you could hurt the fuel pump, it might over heat, the gas keeps it cool. so to answer your ? no you don't get the high of MPG to get your true MPG do the full tank test a few times, you could run it until the fuel light comes on, but only a few times, then take the ave between the 2

Yes bombardj1 is right. You need to measure it off a full tank. If you drive for only a 1/4 tank and then fill up and calculate, you will usually get a higher than normal mpg reading. I get about 20.5mpg around town and about 22 hwy on a 2000 Sportage 4wd. I'm not sure if the 2wd get better mpg. It may go up slightly now that I've put on a new manifold and O2 sensor but nowhere near 35mpg. If you are getting that good of mileage have you checked to make sure it's a KIA and not a Honda?

he did not tell us he lives on a hill and his town and work are at the bottm of the hill and he drives in neutral down the hill and is easy going back up the hill. so he does get 35 mpg

you will get a better miles per gallon in canada because our imperial gallon is larger than a US gallon . canadian mileage is measured by litres per 100 klm

Default gas milage?

Hi
sorry for the long reply.
I am still going by the "notch" system",for i know what the cost of gas a liter is here in Canada, and i can go at least 20 miles on $5.00....thats what i think inm getting,,,sorry, this is confusing.
Anyway,,i think i am getting at least 34 miles per gallon,,
I am wrong ,,i emagine, but i dont have to fill up as often as other vehicles i have had.
Thanks for all your replies!
