Default 99 Sportage Transmission Range Switch

I have found a short just before the connector at the Transmission Range Switch. I pryed the harness and bare wire away from the body where it was shorting out and that solved my problem. The meter fuse was blowing everytime I put the vehicle in drive. Now I need to make the fix permanent by repairing the bare wire. Trouble is I can't get to it. Is there a trick or does the trans have to be lowered to get to this switch and the connector? Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not too familiar with the Sportage underchassis, but normally would remove the driveshaft, unbolt the tran. rear mount, jack it up, remove the crossmember and lower the trans enough to access the range switch and wiring.

Hi, I have a CD with User and Workshop manuals on for all models 1995 - 2002 (it says) -It has many photos and am wondering if you could access it using these - maybe even through the shift access. I could do you a copy for £5 GBP (8$ usa) includes postage. To pay via Paypal as they do automatic currency conversion too. If this is of help let me know on philsbargainstore@gmail.com. Regards.
