Default window repair cost

The window on the driver side of my son's 2001 4 dr Sportage went down and would not come back up. Took the door panel off and could raise the window by hand. Motor still running, cable not broken. Little white plastic piece at bottom of vertical channel is broken. Taped the window up for now and put door panel back on. Now none of the window motors will work! Checked pwr window fuse under hood, and it looks good. Called dealer in Albuquerque, and was quoted a price of $170 for labor and $278 for motor and regulator assembly. Plus tax of course. Didn't tell them about the other motors not working. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Seems like a lot of $ to me.

Tom,

Do a search on E-bay for "sportage window regulator" and you'll get window regulators from Four Green. Make sure you get the correct one, for LH 4-door 2002-2002. The e-bay item number was 350168095576 when I just looked it up. The regulator you need is $89.90 plus S&H. I recently purchased a regulator for my 2001 2-door and it worked no problem. Not sure if you could just replace the white plastic piece or not, but I could try to get the one off my trashed regulator and send it to you.

As for all the motors not working, did you securely plug the connector back into the window switch in the door panel before you buttoned everything back up? If you neglected to plug it back in, or if it came unplugged when you put it all back together you'll have no window controls as the circuitry for all the window switches routes through the main one on the driver's door.

Jeff; Thanks for the reply. How difficult is it to install the new assembly? Doubt that the $2 plastic piece can be swapped, but not sure. Thanks for your help.

Tom,

It's actually very simple to replace the assembly. There are two screws that hold the window glass to the regulator track. Once you remove those screws, you can lift the window out of the door by carefully tilting it and then pulling it to the outside of the door. The regulator track is held to the door by three nuts and another three hold the regulator motor to the door. Unplug the electrical connector and remove. Reverse to install the new one.
