Default Factory Installed Alarm

Wow it sure was nice to find this site. Hopefully somebody will be able to help me out. I have a 2000 Kia Sportage and according to the instructions the main button for the alarm system is in the center console, and only God knows where, or I just have no idea what I am looking for. I also looked on the left side under the dash for the heck of it because it says they are located there on some vehicle models. Ok does anyone have a photo of this switch I am looking for or does someone know exactly where it is at and can describe exactly what it looks like. I have the dash taken completely apart for other reasons but since I am here I wanted to program the control that I just got from the dealer. I can actually see the black box for the alarm system but there is no button anywhere or the damn thing is really hidden very well. Please help me out here guys and my appreciation in advance for some intelligent input. Thanks

I dont know of any button for the alarm just that in order to arm and disarm it you need to lock the door with your key.

Well maybe I did not explain myself clearly. I just got a new remote control for the factory installed alarm system and I need to program the remote for the vehicle that I have. I am going to attach a copy of the instructions to see if anyone can clarify as to where this switch may be that I am looking desperately for. Thanks to anyone with a little help in the matter.

Ok then tistotelmyer I will give this my best shot. At least I have some idea what I might be looking for. The alarm box is sitting in the exact same place as mine but I have not seen this switch but then I was not looking for wires wrapped with electrical tape either. I will update you on my progress. You have my sincere gratitude. Thanks

I just do not understand how in Gods name finding a button can be so stinking difficult but it sure is giving me a run for my money. Ok for anyone out there who has experienced this issue I am facing I am begging you to please tell me where I can find this elusive switch I am trying to find. I have attached 4 photos of the 2000 Kia sportage so you can see what I am seeing. I was just wondering if it might be hiding under the carpet somewhere but I did not want to start cutting on it to end up in the same place I am in now so I decided to post again to look for more help. Thanks again guys for any help here.

By looking at the pics you sent you may not have the RKE module. Is there a white antenna wire coming off of the module thats shown in the pics. Also I think there are supposed to be two modules in that area not just one. I would take a look through some junkyards to see what you can find out there.

There is another module and it is behind it standing up and I was told by the person I bought the car from that it did have a factory alarm installed and the horn beeps as well when you lock the door so if it did not have the alarm system I do not think the horn would beep either. Well I guess I am left at the mercy of the dealer on this one because I have exausted all other options. I was reading somewhere that they will program your remote for free so I guess I will check out that route. Thank you for attempting to help me out tistoelmyer, I honestly do appreciate it. Back to the drawing board.

I just went through the same headache as you did. I purchased a remote off the internet thinking that I had keyless entry. I have a 2000 base model 4 door automatic with power locks and alarm. After getting a look behind the center console, as you did, I saw exactly the same picture. You and I do NOT have an RKE module. If you can find a Kia dealership around they can order one for $49.99. This was the quoted price that I got from my local dealer. Unfortunately, they are currently under chapter 17 and can't order any new parts.

Hope this helps.

Maybe your situation was a little different than mine. I found out today that I infact do have a keyless entree in my car and I was told so by the dealership near me and that it did not have a programming button. They told me that some models came with the button to program them and some did not come with it. For those who were not fortunate enough to have the button they have to take their kia to the dealership and they will program it for a grand total of 42 dollars. Then I found out from a kia tech that I have an aftermarket security system in my car and you know as well as I do that the remote for those systems unlock the doors as well. So now I am in the process of looking for an installed alarm system under my dash. The reason the tech said it has one is because the horn beeps when you lock the car door, oh and I als wanted to let you know that the tech at the kia dealership used my vin number to find out if I had the button in my kia. The story of my life, always chasing the wrong damn horse. Oh well if and when I find this security system I will just have to purchase a remote for it but then I will be left with the damn task of finding the programming button for that sucker. Well this sure brings some truth to the saying when it rains it poors. Onward to bigger and better things is what I say and hope for the best. Thanks a lot for your input but I think I am close to solving this riddle. I will update you when I figure it all out. Thanks
