Default Eng. Chk light after eng. shampoo

Hello everyone,

I own 01 sportage, today I just got my engine shampoo done by a local detailing shop. They did a great job, but 5 minutes after I left the place, check engine light came on though the car runs same as before. What could have happened? Could it be a temporary thing and just need to unplug the battery or something? I need some advice please.

Regards,
Nick

could be some misfire due to water trapped around spark wires
if you do not see anything wrong with engine, do not worry, water may do some weird things with electricity

did you have a chance to warm up the engine? Drive it tomorrow or any other day and then disconnect the battery if the light did not go out itself.

check the coilpack valley for water and check the spark plug holes for water. if it was a misfire though, it would run worse than it did before. last time i washed my engine and i got a check engine light, i found water in one of the o2 sensor connectors. you'll have to take apart one connector at a time to find out which one has water in it or have the code scanned and that should point you in the right spot to check.

when I washed mine Intrepid A/C / radiator fans were running on max speed all the time. Some water in fuse/relay box.
So yeah, water gets everywhere. Took one hot day and hot engine to get rid of it.
