Default Crank pulley problem

This is a great forum on Kias and appreciate all the info from everyone. My wife has a 99 sportage that had the crank pulley bolt come loose and moved the timing belt forward. I tightend up the the bolt and it will not start. I am curious to what damage this may have cauesd to the crank or other parts. It turns over but sounds out of time. Sputters and pops while turning over. I'm thinking taking the front parts off and installing a new timing belt. But can the movement of the crank pulley cause the timing itself to be so far off. The timing belt remained intact and didn't come off when the pulley moved forward. I appreciate any advice or possible threads I can visit.

1st gen sportages that throw a cam sensor code usually are out of timing. even though your marks are right on, the timing is still off and i will tell you why...check the timing belt sprocket on the crank by turning it side to side and check for too much play. they have a problem with shearing off the key and eventually if not taken care of asap when it has this problem it will make the key way in the crank bigger which will result in having to replace the whole crank.
Kiaracer posted this in another thread. I think that you should look VERY closely at the crank snout and the pulley to see if there is any damage like what he talks about.

Plus you should re-examine the alignment of the belt and the timing marks. It seems likely that if it was running off the crank edge then the belt would be dragging on something...That would heat up the belt and damage it and allow it to stretch enough to jump out of timing alignment. The stress might also have damaged the bearings in the idler and/or tensioner...Be certain to examine them very closely while in there.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info Mrvette. I appreciate it very much. I'm going to be digging into it today and see what I can find. Thanks again!

I lined all the marks, cams and crank. The timing belt is replaced and installed correctly and it still won't start. I think it maybe the crank sensor. I am not sure exactly where it is located and the ease of replacing it. Also could it be the cam sensor also. Thanks in advance.

Before you start just replacing sensors at random get an OBD II scanner read on it and see if that points to the problem.
Every-one on here is complaining about bad grounds in the wiring harness...That would be a better place to start looking. Other than that i don't know what else to tell you.
Re-read the quote from before closely and make certain that this isn't your problem. The measurements that would effect timing might be as little as a couple of thousandths of an inch.
