Default 99 Sportage recall

I found this on the internet about my 99 Kia Sportage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Component: Electrical System: Wiring

Defect Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE C123 AND C124 CONNECTORS CAN BE PUT UNDER TENSION BY MOVEMENT OF THE ENGINE, THUS PULLING THE WIRES AND CONNECTORS, LOOSENING THEM AND RESULTING IN A LOSS OF CIRCUIT CONTINUITY.

Consequence Summary: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE ENGINE STALLING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL INSTALL SPRING CLIPS TO LOCK THE CONNECTORS TOGETHER. IN ADDITION, THE DEALERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO SOLDER A SPLICE IN THE WIRE HARNESS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a call into my nearest Kia dealer about this and they are supposed to call me back. Should be interesting to hear what they say.

After about 4 hours they called back and said they needed the VIN number. I gave it to them and about half an hour later they said that VIN number only had a recall on the Seat Belt buckle. I think I will try a different Kia dealer in a different city and see what they say.

it is an actual recall. here it is off of KGIS.

Campaign No. KT2005022306

1997, 1998, and 1999 Sportage models produced from August 29, 1996 to February 1, 1999.

Body Electrical System / Wiring / Engine wiring

DTC P0101 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance
P0750 - Shift Control Solenoid Valve A Circuit Malfunction

Symptom EN4000 - engine stalls
EN2000 - Idle-irregularity
EN5000 - poor engine power/acceleration
EN9000 - MIL ON (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
ENN002 - Vibration

Subject Safety Recall: Engine Wire Harness C123/C124 Connectors (SC014)
Description This bulletin provides information related to a recall on 1997-1999 Sportage models for a potential stalling condition. Some 1997, 1998, and 1999 Sportage models may have poor pin terminal contact in engine/injector harness C123/C124 connectors. Poor pin terminal contact in these connectors could result in interrupted sensor/component signals to and from the ECM. If poor pin terminal contact occurs, the engine could stall which could cause a loss of vehicle power and result in an accident.

To correct this situation, Kia is recalling affected 1997-1999 Sportage models to tighten C123/C124 pin terminals, apply Stabilant 22A to the terminals, and install spring clips on the connectors to hold the connector halves tightly together.

In addition, the S116 sensor splice in the injector harness will be soldered to ensure maximum sensor circuit integrity.

call them back and give them the campaign number so they can look it up.

Sounds like my problem alright, and problems others are having on here too, but I think they are going to say SOME Kia's are affected, but not mine. That's why they ask for the VIN number.

I am going to call three or four Kia dealers and see if I get one that will do the recall on my Kia.

Cool 99 kia sportage recall

I just bought a used 1999 kia sportage 4x4. If anyone can point me in the right direction. Need info. On the recalls for the 99 sportage. Also need a owners manual. But 4x4 doesnt work front hubs wont lock. Seems to be some faulty reads something bad in wires maybe in wire harness. Lights seem to be a little dim. Does anyone have recall numbers. Campaighn numbers. Please e mail any info to riverajim38@outlook.com. Would be very thankful for your help.

Welcome to the site.
Start a new thread.......Did you see how old this one is? More people will see it. I need the last 8 of your vin# to see if you have any outstanding recalls. I doubt it, there are no new recalls on old Sportage's. I sure they would have been done years ago.

Things to ponder...
The car is 16 years old.... rubber parts go bad and won't be covered by a recall... All warranties have expired... This model/year car has been a good one (that's why it is physically still available) but they do need replacement parts to put them in running condition. Now it's time to get your hands dirty or have someone else do so...

You will find all kinds of posts on the front hub.. (Warn Hubs) and recalls here if you search the area pertaining to your year KIA... Our threads are not archived (that's why you found what you did in a dead thread)...

I often read complaints about how KIAs are/have been a "throw away car"... 16 years is not a bad life for ANY brand vehicle and there are STILL many of these Sportages doing their daily jobs...

There was no recall. This will be up to you to fix, or pay some to fix.And yes the vac lines do dry rot and leak, your Kia is 16 years old, rubber lines like that fail after so much time.

Thanks to all for your replies but i was just inquireing on the faulty wireing mainly the car is actualy in real good shape for being 16 years old i know parts go bad over time but wouldnt make sense to keep replaceing them untill the stem of it gets taken care of i did alot of digging an seen alot of people just turned to manual hubs which is what ill do but i surely dont expect new brakes an tune up from recall lol just was worried on the wireing my dash engine light is on which is putting out the codes for emission problems i thought that might be some of the wireing problem i did replace o2 sensor but other code is air flow an low circut connectivity which sounds like this 99 sportage was never taken in. For recall repairs. So kia would not still fix the issue. I surely can do it myself but figured since its winter in wisconsin i could save myself from some suffering lol. On top money ill spend
