Red face 02 sportage won't start

I have an 02 sportage that wont start. The fuel pump wasn't sending gas to the engine so I used the jump wire on the diagnostic port and now there is gas but it still won't start. The timing belt appears to be okay and I don't know what else to try. Someone please help! Could it be the egi relay? where is it and what does it really do?

Not sure about the location on yours, but on my 99, there is a fuse box under the hood just in front of the battery. There are 2 relays - one Main, and one for the fuel pump. If either one is bad, the fuel pump will not come on as it should. The Main relay supplies power to the fuel pump relay, and also a few other things. Mine was doing the same as yours, and I finally found the main relay bad by checking the vlotage at the MAF sensor. Should have been 12V, it was 6V. Try switching the relays and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks I will try that. Hopefully I will have some good luck! I certainly can't afford to take it in to be worked on.
