Default Fan clutch problem, Sportage 2002, 2.0 diesel

Hi all,
I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, East Europe. I have a Sportage 2002, 2.0 diesel and recently experienced problem with the engine overheating. It did not overheated completely but meter/pointer stopped in the middle between normal and high temperature. A mechanic concluded it is a problem with the fan clutch (or viscous coupling). Now I am trying to find better price for spare part than I should pay here in my country. I am curious is the fun clutch for European models and American models is the same. The difference in the price is 230 euros. Who would not save this money? So anyone knows is there difference between European and American fun clutch? Thanks.

When i went looking for a Sportage here in the US i never saw any diesel engine versions, so i would guess that they are not sold here??? My fan clutch is acting up as well so i am trying to get my paws on the SPAL controller and fan to convert it to electric fan system. There are several write ups on this forum and others about making that conversion. The problem i have with it is that the cost is about $200-220USD from ebay for both. In your case that would be a big savings all the way around. I haven't found any good wiring descriptions or diagrams on line yet and hope that the SPAL i ordered has good instructions with it. The big advantage to electric fan would be that there is a lot less drag (on the gas engine any-way) increasing MPG and free up some HP. The truth is that i don't know what difference it would make on a diesel, but worth at least researching for yours. Sorry that i don't have access to information on if there are different clutch fan types.
Good luck.

This a thread that talks about the fan and other issues; http://www.kia-forums.com/1g-1994-20...s-newbies.html
