A strange problem with drive pully movement
Iam a little confused with this situation. My wifes car is a 99 sportage with about 110,000 miles and ran fine until the main drive belt broke. My wife called me when the brake and battery lights came on. I went to the place she pulled over at and upon inspection the crank pully was further forward that the other pullys. It didn't line up with the otherpullys. I replaced the belt about 6,000 miles ago so it was still in good shape. The timing belt was also moved forward about 1/4"-1/2" This seems odd to me since it still ran. The timing belt is still good but not on the cam all the way. I checked it and it was still tight. Well I may have done a bone headed thing when I attempted to drive it home. About 1 mile away. I was careful not to let it overheat and watched the gauges. I almost made it when it stopped running completely. I let it cool down some. It wasn't hot, and it just spun over. Sounded like it lost compression completely. Timing belt was still unbroke. My question is, What may have caused this pully to move forward and is it basicly junk now. When it did run it made no odd noises and drove like it was ok. I appreciate all and any info.
