Exclamation 95 Sportage sale

Administrator:If this is in the wrong place on the forum, please re-locate.
I have a 1995 Sportage EX 4x4 I'm interested in selling. Vehicle is loaded, except leather and sunroof (if those items were even available). 5 speed, cruise, tilt, air cond. p/s, p/b, power tailgate release, rear wiper/washer, power mirrors, power locks, rear mounted full size spare w/interior release, factory alloy wheels, roof rack, 4x4 w/ manual shifting to low and high ranges. The installed CD player does NOT go with this vehicle. 201,000 miles. A new cylinder head and related gaskets and head bolts, along w/ timing belt, tensioners, idlers, water pump, plugs, wire set, coil pack(I have an extra included), radiator cleaned and repaired, new radiator cap, all bypass hoses, fresh oil and filter, antifreeze, new battery, all wiper blades, was performed at 187,000 miles. Clutch is good. The flexible hose OR the slave cylinder appears to have a leak. ( I have a new hose included). Transfer case operates as it should. 100% synthetic oil (CarQuest 5w-30) is being used in the engine, with no loss between 3-5,000 mile changes. Brakes are good. Tires are good. The flywheel ring gear appears to have a bad spot on it, and the starter will not engage in the teeth on occasion. A slight nudge in 5th gear remedies the problem. The a/c works properly, but needs the a/c pushbutton switch that is mounted in the dash panel (dealer ordered two, but both were wrong part). Just got it in the "on" position for now. Heat/ defrost, etc. still operates properly. The transfer case engages in all positions, but the front wheel hubs do not seem to put power to the wheels- even though I can hear a clicking at the front wheels, they do not seem to "pull" as they should. Possible hub problems or parts missing at the axle shaft ends? This vehicle is a daily driver for about 100 miles per day. Gas mileage is as everyone else on this forum has alluded to: about 23-25 mpg. Did get 25-27 on a road trip w/ the cruise on. Color: white, w/ black graphics on the sides & hood. Pictures are available via e-mail if interested. Any interest, I'm located in north Alabama. Asking $2400. Thanks, David

You might want to rethink your asking price. I just picked up a 2000 Sporty exactly like yours, except it's an automatic with only 95,000 miles and no mechanical problems at all for $2500 off eBay.

Chicago, Thanks for your reply. I really have no idea what the vehicle might actually be worth, so your insight is appreciated. Also do not know about the cost to repair the front hub issue, or if what I surmise is actually the problem. Would Warn hubs be a reasonable solution , if the hubs are defective or parts are missing? Anyone care to offer up what a reasonable price would be for this vehicle? I just know what I paid for it, and what has been spent on it so far to make it a reliable driver for me. I'm wanting to sell it for a variety of reasons: gas mileage(IMHO) sort of sucks compared to other similar vehicles, can't haul too much in it and have to use the really gas-guzzling truck for larger or weighty items, and need to repair a '97 Taurus wagon to take the Sportage's place.(The Taurus hauls more and gets 30 mpg).

Ask for $2300, so it can be haggled down to $1900. If someone chooses not to haggle and just pays asking price, well, good for you. I bought my 02 for $1500 with 60k 3 months ago, but my boss was getting a beamer from a relative therefore wasn't in need of the 4k most dealers were offering, so it doesn't compare to your situation.

This vehicle is still for sale. I have determined that the outer part of the front hubs are worn out. Transfer case engages well, and front axles turn as they should. WARN hubs are available at a very reasonable price online for this vehicle. One of our forum members has indicated a time of approx. 25 minutes per side to install the WARN setup. This vehicle is a daily driver with about 75-100 miles per day. The price has been reduced from $2400. to $1900.(somewhat negotiable). Pictures are available by e-mail to any one inquiring. Must sell, as I need to purchase a vehicle my wife (disabled) is able to drive (Automatic trans.) Vehicle located in north Alabama. Current mileage is 207,400, approx. Thanks, David.
