Default ABS light on

Noticed the ABS light was lit after starting from cold, switched off and then switched ign back on ABS light illuminates and then switches off I can hear a relay click when it does start the engine and it lights up again then goes off but lights up after a few seconds and remains on.
Without any ABS test gear anyone else have any ideas what could be wrong or had similar fault appear?

Default

Have Sportage 2002 (large) driven in a very dusty environment. The new ABS sensors stopped working soon, a mechanic told me that due to the dusty environment they will keep malfunctioning. Didn't attempt cleaning the sensors (not sure if they can be cleaned) because there are more than one sensors on each wheel. Would like to know if the problem can easily be fixed. (There's no free lunch)

Unhappy ABS LIGHT ongoing

Update of my problem ABS light on when ignition turned on hear relay when it checks the system and light turns off start engine ABS light then illuminates and stays on.

First Garage couldnt get their computer to talk to the car via the OBDII connection to find ABS faults.
My system at home has no ABS checking on the software so it looks like its off to the dealer.

I have pulled the rear sensor from the rear diff and wires were all good, gave it a clean and put it back, no change to ABS light after that.

I already knew there were no sensors on the front wheels and discovered from another forum that there is only one sensor at the front, finally hunted it down at the top of the Gearbox bellhousing on the left hand side looking up from the floor underneath the car, you have to remove the under tray to get at it.
Pulled that one as well this one has three wires, again I cleaned it and checked condition of wires and connecting plug and socket all looked good.
Put it back in but no change to ABS light, still staying on after initial system check.

To the dealers on Monday see what they find, I expect it will cost whatever they find.

Kia Global Info site no help all the data on ABS refers to Sportages with 2 front sensors and 1 at the rear evidently 2002 UK model I have only had 1sensor at front and 1 at back.

Will update when I finally get this fault fixed

Default Fault traced at Dealer

Car went to Dealer today, result of their tests revealed ABS Control Unit at fault. New unit required at a cost of £319.95 + labour so looking at around £500 to get this fixed. Unit housed under the dash.
Common fault so the mechanic tells me.
Also revealed only one sensor on the rear diff on 2002 model none on the front not a complete 4 wheel ABS system then. The other sensor I found on the bellhousing was the speedo sensor and not the ABS.

Default ABS Fault Fixed

Dealer fitted the new ABS Control Unit under the dash today and ABS light now off after engine is started.
I have noticed that the new unit goes through the Check sequence much faster than the old unit ever did when you first switch on the ignition and it also briefley illuminates the ABS light when you switch off the igntion before going out altogether cannot remember it doing that with the original unit.
Cost for that in the UK was
Labour £118.50 and the ABS Cntrol Unit was £319.95
VAT on top of that brought it up to £515.18
Expensive way to turn a lamp off or what?
