Default Sportage Not turning over

2001 Kia Sportage

Here's what happened: I went to pick the wife up at work on Friday, last week, and turned the engine off while waiting. I turned the key to restart it and it turned over for a second and stopped. After that, nothing with turning the key at all. I kind of figured it was either the starter or something electrical.

Well, Friday at eight in the evening. Nothing open and I had to work Saturday morning at 6:30. Ended up borrowing the brother-in-laws car for the next day to get my butt to work. Dealer service dept. closed till after the holiday Monday as well. Rented a car Saturday and decided to have the Kia towed to dealer on Tuesday.

I called the dealer late Wednesday to see what they found. Was told they just finished fixing it and I could pick it up. I had visions of a monster bill seeing as how they were just to look at it and see what was wrong and call me about repairs.

Service guy on phone said the starter was not getting juice and it ended up as a minor wiring problem.

Well, long story short. They charged me for one hour labour and $2.00 in parts. Grand total of $82.00 plus taxes.

All in all, a very posative dealer experience. Just thought I should post something good about a dealer. Most seem to be bad experiences.

Glad to hear that you had a good experience with your Kia dealer. I hate to take any car to any repair place cause you never know if they are doing you right or not.

I just bought a 1999 Sportage auto 4WD and it seemed to be a little slow at spinning over. A quick check revealed that the negative battery clamp was loose. The nut is tightened as tight as it will go, but it is still loose. I bought a new cable and will be putting it on tomorrow. I also took the car to Autozone for a free check and they said the battery and charging system were both good, which makes me happy.

The battery clamps on the Kia [at least the 1999 like I have] are really sorry. They look like they are made of old beer cans.
