Default Front Differential problem and request for factory support link.

Good Morning. I spent a couple of happy hours under my 2002 Sportage last night. The basics, an oil change (Mobile 1, moving on up in the world) new thermostat, failed attempt to change the fuel filter and checking the fluid levals in the differentials. The front differential was a little low. I filled it up and it immediatly drained down to the level of the right inside universial joint by running out of the differential case at the right universial joint.
On the one hand, none of this equipment even moves unless I put it into 4WD, right? It does mean that I need to pull it all appart and put in a new seal. I wonder if I need to worry about replacing the shaft as well?

I can't find the link I used in the past to reach the wonderfull factory on line manual for our Sportages. Can anyone help me with that? I will also want to replaced the large gasket on the diff, that faces the transfer case.

When I first replaced all 4 gearboxes with new lube, the front diff has lots of metal filings in the oil. Has anyone ever just replaced the whole front diff? That may be easier than rebuilding the one I have.

Last point, anyone have experience of a slump in the power curve, just before you shift? No codes in the computer, all new ignition stuff. Paul

I don't have the link handy for the online manual, but if you look for any post with a reply from Ron1004, his signature has the link.

Sorry, I can't help with the other stuff.

Mike
