Unhappy Possible timing belt damage?

Ok last night i was driving home from getting stuff for a tune-up maybe going 40 miles per hour when my car just died out , i coasted it into a parking lot and try turning it over and heard spinning sound while doing it, i was planning on changing the timing belt on tuesday so with that said i opened the top timing belt cover and sw the timing belt was off the gears, does anyone know if i may have done any damage to the engine by the tming belt breaking?

a quick search will tell you the engine is fine. just put a new belt on it.

You "might" be lucky -- unless you heard a lot of harsh mechanical noise when you tried to re-start it (fyi, perhaps a bad choice... but yet a "natural" choice), in which case -- kiss the engine goodbye... however, it at least sounds like you "did the right thing" by coasting off of the road ASAP.

At this point I would suggest replacing the timing belt (maybe $50) and see what happens. You can get the instructions for doing this at the Kia website... you just have to give them your email address, etc., then just select "shop manual" from their drop-down menu.

Good lucky buddy.

Looks like you are driving a 2002, so it would be a duel overhead cam. This is definately a non-interferance engine, so it will be just fine. It was only the older single cam engines that were an interferance unit.
