Unhappy Oil in Spark Plug well

So, I changed my plugs and wires over the weekend and found a lot of oil in the well of cylinder 4.

What am I looking at?

Replacing the gasket and seals? Or just the seals?

I heard that there was a special piece that was needed. Seems like to me that kia loves the "special" pieces.

Anyway, any ideas on how much this is going to cost?

Thanks!

What is the correct gauge on the spark plugs for the sportage?

O'Riley's told me .44

But I thought I read in a forum here that it was different.

.75?

Can anyone confirm this?

Had the same thing happen to me the first time I changed my plugs.
The 4 spark plug was wet. So changed the coil and plug wire.
Hasn't been wet since or any oil in the well.
This may be a solution to your problem.
Good luck.

Likely the Valve cover gasket leaking oil down on the plug. Had the same problem with mine. Change it and you should be good.

HI get new spark plug wires at KIA DEALER only..they are about $13 each and last alot longer..this car has 2 plugs UNDER 2 COIL packs, and 2 more wires (visible)that you can easily change. The other 2 wires are part of the COIL packs..good luck
P.S. AUTOZONE CAR PARTS Store will run a free CODE check foryou so you can see what cylinder is misfiring or what is wrong.

Do yourself a big favor NEVER purchase "gapable" plugs (Standard or Platinum), rather, spend about $5 each (here in MA at AutoZone) for the fixed-gap/"circular-gap" platinum plugs... from memory, I believe they were either a 0.044" or 0.045" gap for my 2002 Convertable. I did mine at about 100k miles, and I've got over 150k on it at this point and everything is just "ducky" -- well... sort of -- my tail pipe just fell off again today... for the third freaking time !!!

Harry

fyi: I don't know of ANY plug for ANY engine ever being gapped at 0.075"

Dumb question time, since there are so many beefs about oil around the plugs on this website:

When people here talk about replacing gaskets/seals/etc as a fix, I'm kind of confused, in that, as I recall, when I did mine (via instructions from the Kia Shop Manual website), the final component that I removed to gain access to the plugs was just a plastic/lexan cover (maybe 4"x15")... but all it seemed to do was cover the coil packs/wires/plugs -- i.e., "zip" to to with valve covers and valve cover gaskets... What am I missing ?

Default Valve cover gasket

If your getting oil in the area where the spark plugs are, especially the #4 one, then you need to change the valve cover gasket. Had same problem, now it is fixed. $15 and about an hour.
