Question 99 sportage blowing fuses

my brake lights went out and i changed the fuses everytime i put a new fuse in it blew. i tried it about six times. i replaced and cleaned all the back light bulbs. nothing is helping. as you gentlemen can tell from my car knowledge i am a female trying to resolve my own problem. the local mechanic said it would cost about three hundred dollars for him to run an electrical check???
any advise i can try will be appreciated

does the fuse blow immediately? or only as soon as you press the brakes?

you mentioned you cleaned the rear light bulbs, did you notice any burnt sockets? if you live in a country where daytime running lights are required, the rear lights are on all the time, as such the sockets have a tendency to melt, causing short circuits.
