Default 2000 Kia Sportage ECM Replacement

I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me how hard it is to replace the ECM on a 2000 Kia Sportage.

I have been having a lot of problems with poor performance, stalling, hesitation, etc.

I have purchased the Autotap software and run a diagnostic on the car and it is giving me a possible code of P0604.

I have been getting multiple misfire codes in the past and I have made a lot of repairs on the car preveiously and at this point all the evidence is pointing to the ECM as being bad.

I would like to check it out and possibly do the repair on my own if it is not a difficult task to do.

Any information that anyone can give me on as to how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

The ECM is real easy to change. I just changed mine. Pull back the right carpet on the passenger firewall just above the floor. Remove four bolts and the harness plug. I really doubt if you have a bad ECM. Most of the time the ECM is just doing what its told by other sensors. I actually had a code that said mine was bad but it didnt fix the problem. My Kia will not reset the check engine light but runs o.k. I will sell you my extra ECM for $50.
