Default 2001 Sportage starts but goes dead.

I replaced the altenator and battery and it still goes dead. I can jump it and it runs for a bit then everything starts slowly dying then the engine sputters and quits. Sounds like a bad wire/cable, but I don't know where to begin. Also, it looks like the positve battery cable is a b**ch to change.

Check the heavy wire from the alternator to the battery. If the juice can't get there, your battery will slowly die while it's running.

How do I go about checking it? Does the car need to be running or will it show up throught some sort of test not running. To make sure I understand, it's the wire that bolts to the post on the altenator, right. Also, if it's bad, do I have to replace the whole positive cable or is this wire seperate. Sorry for all of the questions, but thanks too.
