Question Who is telling the truth?

I just had 2 new tires fitted on the front and when i picked my car up he said my wheel bearings need re-packing.He said it was a simple job, anybody could do it.
So with that advice i thought i would do it myself.
Anyways a few days past and i was talking to a guy who i work with and he said it is not straight forward ,"the bearings are sealed " Really need a garage to do the job.
So can anybody tell me how to do it or is it a garage job?
