Red face What the mechanic said I needed done. Agree or disagree?

Hey all, I know I have been posting a lot. But I just found the joys and wonders of a car forum! Since no mechanic seems to really know anything about the 97 kia sportage, I figured I would ask people who have had good experience with them, or any experience?

This is the list of things the mechanic said I needed
Transmission fluid flush
Radiator system flush
Hoses replaced
Fuel system tune up
Engine Gaskets (valve cover)
Rear drum brake service (apparently the shoes are cracking)

They also said my battery is not holding a really strong charge, and I need new wiper blade,, which yeah I can do that a lot cheaper on my own. I will do both of these on my own.

I am not sure I will be keeping the car for more than 6months to a year, but I also don't want it to crap out. It has about 110,000 miles on it... So any ideas, comments, suggestions?

Valve cover! Yes! as it does tend to leak, fouling the plugs and coil packs, leading to rough running!

Brakes, if they are original yes! 10 years is a lot to expect out of a set of shoes!

Hoses, if they are also original them yes! The hoses crack from the inside out, you may not see any cracking on the outside but that dosn't mean they are not about to burst!

The other stuff is just general maintance, if you were keeping the Kia for a while then go for it, if she's running rough and sluggish then sure, but if you are running fine and only plan on keeping her for a short time them maybe not a hot idea!

Hoses will be done, as well as battery for sure! So said the same things some other people around my work said too.. It was so much easier with my old car! I miss it!
thanks!
